Overthinking

When one thought keeps circling back

You don't have to win the argument with a thought. You only have to stop feeding it.

A single thought keeps returning — the same worry, the same scene, knocking again and again. And each time you answer it, it comes back a little louder.

The mind treats a circling thought like an emergency. But a thought is not a command, and it is not the truth. It is just a thought, asking to be fed.

Try this

  1. Name it plainly: “Ah — this thought again.” Naming it sets a small space between you and it. In that space, you are the one watching, not the one being chased.
  2. Don’t argue, don’t obey — just let it stand there. Like a knock at a door you choose not to open. It will knock, then tire, then go.
  3. Return your attention to one real thing — the weight of your feet, a sound in the room. You’ll drift; you return. The returning is the practice.

The point: You don’t have to silence a thought. You only have to stop chasing it — and notice that it was never holding you. You were holding it.
